ClimateTimeMachine: What do you want your climate future to look like?
Journeys of discovery into the climate future
Journeys of discovery into the climate future
Imagine you could travel to the climate future in a time machine. There, together with other people, you experience how the climate crisis affects your personal life. You try out how you influence the climate: through your living conditions and through the climate-related social decisions you make together with your fellow travellers. You find out what these decision’s positive and negative consequences are for you and how that feels.
Much more than a CO2 footprint calculator
Much more than a CO2 footprint calculator
In ClimateTimeMachine, the focus is on you: how you live and what consequences your decisions have for yourself and society.
First, provide some details about your lifestyle: mobility, heating, electricity consumption, flights, food, recycling and other consumption. Where you don’t know the details, we help you with estimators estimators and average defaults.
From this, the system calculates your personal CO2 emissions.
ClimateTimeMachine, however, goes far beyond a conventional CO2 footprint calculator.
You represent many other people in the simulation with your decisions. The changes in emissions of all participants are extrapolated to the world population. From this, scientific models can calculate realistic climate futures.

Based on the calculations, we show you how your living environment could change. For example: Are trees dying or even benefiting? Do rivers dry up? Will there be floods?
How hot will it be where you live? Which cities will no longer exist because they have been flooded? How many nights of heat will you lie awake? How much more will we be able to harvest?

Find out what you can do – alone and together with the other fellow time travellers.
During the course of the simulation, you make decisions that you can adapt over time as your circumstances change.
What are the implications of your decisions on consumption, food, investments, travel, housing, mobility? What political decisions are put to a vote?
Where do you come up against limits, what has particularly much effect and what comes easily to you?
